Who I am
My wife and I live on Kaler road with our two year old son. We moved to South Portland in 2022 to be closer to my family, and because of its reputation as a welcoming and diverse corner of the state with quality schools. After three years here, it has become clear how special this city is. It is a place where we want to lay down our roots and grow our family in the years to come.
This past budget season has laid bare, however, that our school district is facing a number of challenges today and into the future. It is clear that we are in need of school leadership that is not just trying to steer the boat day-to-day through choppy waters, but is navigating with clear vision of a positive future where our children can flourish. As a member of the South Portland school board, I believe I can help build that vision.
I come to this position with experience in a number of educational contexts. I have worked as a classroom teacher, as in-school support staff focused on supporting English Learners and their families, and for an education advocacy organization that gave grants and budgetary management support to schools in Boston. I also hold a Masters in Education Policy and Management from Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Why I’m Running
I am running for school board because I have expertise that can help our community navigate this uncertain financial and political moment for our schools. I don't come to this position with all of the answers. I know there is a rich history in South Portland that I am just beginning to learn about and carve out my family's place in.
But I know what it means to bring all stakeholders together to build a vision for schools, and I know how schools work. Together, I believe we can create a clear roadmap to guide us in our decision-making both today and tomorrow. I know this work is difficult, but it is absolutely necessary so that we can do what is right for our students and our future.
